Labiaplasty Before & After

Take a look at the before and after photos of women who have chosen labiaplasty with Dr. James Lacey. These images highlight the transformative results and the positive impact this procedure can have on both comfort and confidence.

Are you feeling discomfort or self-consciousness due to the appearance of your labia? This can affect your confidence, comfort in clothing, or even intimate moments. It’s something many women experience, but don’t often talk about.

Labiaplasty might be the solution you’re looking for. This procedure involves the reshaping or reduction of the labia minora and can address issues such as irritation, pain during physical activities, and aesthetic concerns. Not only can it enhance your comfort and confidence, but it can also improve your quality of life by allowing you to move freely and feel better in your own skin.

What is Labiaplasty?

Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure that can reshape and reduce the size of the labia minora, the inner folds of skin around the vaginal opening.

Large or uneven development of the labia can cause many problems for women, including discomfort during sexual intercourse, pain with exercise, and self-consciousness with certain clothing choices. Altering the size of labia is a surprisingly simple solution that can help correct these issues and provide an improved quality of life.

Our experienced surgeon, Dr. James Lacey, will carefully reduce and reshape the labial tissue to create a balanced and natural look. The procedure is typically done as an outpatient surgery, taking about an hour. After which, women experience improved comfort and self-confidence once recovered.

At Kanata Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery,  we are often contacted by women inquiring about labiaplasty surgery or labia reduction surgery. This can be a sensitive topic, and at our private plastic surgery clinic we treat everyone with the utmost respect and discretion.

What Are the Types of Labiaplasty?

Choosing the right labiaplasty technique depends on your specific goals and desired outcome. Here’s a breakdown of the types of labiaplasty:

Trim Labiaplasty, Labia Minora
(available at KPCS)

The trim technique tackles enlarged or uneven labia minora (the inner lips) by removing extra tissue along their entire length. This is perfect if you want a noticeable size reduction and aims to leave you with a balanced, symmetrical look.

Wedge Labiaplasty, Labia Minora
(available at KPCS)

The wedge technique is a popular choice for labiaplasty because it subtly removes a small wedge of tissue from your inner lips, creating a noticeable size reduction while keeping its natural look. Also, it minimizes scarring and promotes faster healing, so you can feel quicker.

Labia Majora Reduction
(not available at KPCS)

If your outer labia (labia majora) feels bulky or uneven, labiaplasty can help by reshaping them. Labiaplasty is done with anesthesia so you'll be relaxed throughout the procedure. Small incisions are made along the natural folds of your labia then excess tissue is removed, and the incisions are usually closed with dissolvable sutures.

Clitoral Hood Reduction
(not available at KPCS)

Some women might also choose to address the clitoral hood during labiaplasty. This procedure, called clitoral hood reduction, reshapes the folds of skin surrounding the clitoris. Precise incisions are made to achieve the look you desire, all while prioritizing your comfort and sexual function.

Who Is the Ideal Candidate for Labiaplasty?

Labiaplasty can be a transformative procedure for many women, but it’s important to understand if it’s the right choice for you. Here are some factors that make someone an ideal candidate for labiaplasty:

You have an enlarged or uneven labia that causes pain, irritation, or difficulty with activities like exercise or intercourse.

Ideally, you should be over 18 years old and your body has fully developed.

You’re in overall good health and don’t suffer from any major health risks.

There are tears, unevenness, or laxity in your labia due to childbirth, injury, or weight changes.

You feel insecure about the appearance of your labia.

You have realistic expectations about the results of labiaplasty.

What are the Benefits of a Labiaplasty?

Labiaplasty offers a range of potential benefits, both functional and aesthetic. Here’s a closer look at some of the key advantages:

  • Enhanced Comfort

Enlarged or uneven labia can cause chafing, irritation, and pain. Labiaplasty reduces these issues, making you feel more comfortable during exercise, intercourse or daily activities.

  • Improved Aesthetics

The procedure reshapes and trims the inner labia for a balanced look. This can improve your confidence.

  • Simplified Personal Hygiene

Labiaplasty simplifies your hygiene routine and reduces the risk of irritation and infections.

  • Natural-Looking Results

Dr. Lacey uses skilled techniques to achieve natural-looking results that complement your unique anatomy. The goal is a harmonious appearance that blends seamlessly for a beautiful and natural outcome.

How to Prepare for Labiaplasty in Ottawa?

If you’re considering labiaplasty at Kanata Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery, here are a few things to keep in mind before your procedure:

Your Own Due Diligence

To decide if labiaplasty is right for you, it’s important to understand what the procedure is about. Learn about the different techniques used in labiaplasty and what to expect during the surgery itself. Read experiences from other women who have undergone labiaplasty. This can give you a realistic idea of the process. Research what to expect during recovery, including potential discomfort and how long it might take to get back to your normal routine.

Initial Consultation

Your first step is a consultation with Dr. James Lacey where he’ll discuss your goals, concerns, and medical history. Dr. Lacey will explain the procedure in detail, answer your questions, and determine the best approach for you. During your consultation, you’ll receive detailed pre-operative instructions to ensure a smooth experience.

Medications and Supplements

Certain medications and supplements can thin your blood and increase bleeding risks. Dr. Lacey will review your current medications and recommend stopping any medications that may increase your risks during surgery.

Hold off on supplements like Vitamin C, herbal supplements, and weight-loss products for at least four weeks before surgery. These can affect your body’s response to surgery and healing.

Other Reminders

If you smoke or drink alcohol, quitting for a few weeks before surgery is ideal. Smoking and alcohol can slow healing, thin your blood and increase bleeding risks.

Day of Procedure

On the day of your procedure, it’s important to wear loose-fitting clothing. After the operation, you may feel a bit weak, so it’s crucial to arrange for a friend or loved one to drive you home. If you can’t find a friend or family member to drive you, you may need to arrange another way to get home.

What Is the Labiaplasty Surgery in Ottawa?

Here’s what you can expect in your labiaplasty surgery with Dr. Lacey:

Anesthesia Administration

Dr. Lacey will administer a local anesthetic to numb the area for surgery. You may feel a pinch when the anesthesia is administered, but after that you’ll be comfortable during surgery.

Incision Placement

Once you’re comfortably numb, Dr. Lacey will carefully mark and make small incisions on the inner labia (labia minora). These are planned to achieve the best outcome for your unique anatomy.

Tissue Removal

Using his expertise, Dr. Lacey gently removes excess tissue to reduce the size and create a more balanced appearance.

Suturing

The final step involves closing the incisions with dissolvable stitches. This ensures a smooth, symmetrical look with minimal scarring.

What Can You Expect Post Surgery?

Here’s a rundown of what to expect after your labiaplasty with Dr. Lacey:

First Few Days

You may experience swelling, soreness and intermediate discomfort during the first few days after surgery. Minimize discomfort by applying cool compresses to the treated area every 1-2 hours while awake.

Keep the area of the incision clean. Rinse the incisions with a peri bottle filled with tap water after using the restroom and at least twice daily. Avoid soaking in baths or pools for 6 weeks after surgery. Prioritize healing by eating healthy foods, drinking plenty of water, and getting plenty of rest.

First Week

You’ll likely experience some pain and discomfort. To manage this pain and discomfort, Dr. Lacey may prescribe medication. There’ll be some light spotting or bleeding which is normal and should subside within a few days. Itching is common as nerves heal, and temporary numbness in the labia is expected. Both will improve over time. Take it easy and avoid strenuous activities. Most people can resume light activity by the end of this week.

Second Week

Continue taking medication as prescribed by Dr. Lacey. Pain and discomfort should lessen further, although swelling might persist. Maintain proper hygiene by gently cleansing the area and avoiding harsh chemicals around the stitched area.

Most people can resume work and usual activities within 2 weeks of surgery (excluding strenuous activities and sexual intercourse). Wear loose-fitting, breathable cotton clothing to prevent irritation. Use a padded cushion with a center indent for more comfortable sitting.

Third Week

You’ll likely have a follow-up appointment with Dr. Lacey to discuss your healing progress and address any questions or concerns. Strenuous activities like cycling and swimming should still be avoided. Continue proper hygiene practices and avoid tampons and sexual activity. Pain and discomfort should decrease significantly, allowing for most daily activities.

Four to Six Weeks

By 6 weeks after surgery, you can typically resume life as usual, including strenuous activities, like cycling, or sexual intercourse. However, swelling may still be present and can take several months to completely subside. Dr. Lacey will provide detailed post-operative instructions tailored to your specific needs. Don’t hesitate to reach out to his office if you have any questions or concerns throughout your recovery.

Additional Tips:

  • Listen to your body and gradually increase your activity level as you feel comfortable.
  • Follow Dr. Lacey’s instructions regarding medication and wound care.
  • Attend all scheduled follow-up appointments so you’re on your way to a smooth recovery.

Corresponding & Complementary Procedures

Labiaplasty is sometimes included in a group of procedures called a “mommy makeover.” This lets you choose from treatments like tummy tuck, breast implants, liposuction, and labiaplasty all at once. Dr. James Lacey may be able to perform these surgeries together, so if you’re looking to address several concerns after having children, you may be able get them taken care of in one procedure.

FAQs

During your first visit, Dr. Lacey will complete a brief medical history with you and discuss your concerns. A physical exam of the area does take place during your consultation. This will let Dr. Lacey see your concerns and discuss realistic expectations with you, then together, you will make a surgery plan.

This is all about your comfort level. Our team performs the surgery the same whether you have your period or not. You can wear a tampon, or a pad which will be removed for surgery, or reschedule your surgery if that’s what is best for you. We understand that everyone’s comfort level is different and have no problem accommodating your preference.

This timeline is dependent on the individual’s healing. We all heal at our own rate so while the average timeline may be 1 month for waxing, it could be more or less for certain individuals. In general, if you’re healing as expected, you can shave around the 2 week mark, as long as the incision is healed. But, as always, it’s best to discuss this with your surgeon at your follow up appointments before deciding to resume regular hair removal routines.

While some clinics may offer options to increase the size of the labia majora, this is not something offered at Kanata Plastic & Cosmetic Surgery. We offer labiaplasty to reduce or alter the appearance of the labia minora.

Whether in early adulthood, motherhood, middle age, or the golden years, labiaplasty can offer both aesthetic and functional benefits. For more information about labiaplasty and other cosmetic procedures, schedule your appointment at Kanata Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery, with Dr. James Lacey.
