Brow Lift Before & After

Check out these before and after photos of past Brow Lift patients of Dr. James Lacey. These photos can give a realistic idea of the amazing facial contour improvements you can achieve through this surgery.

What Is a Brow Lift?

A brow lift repositions the eyebrows in a more youthful position. It also corrects forehead lines and creases, and can shorten a high forehead (I do not like the term forehead lift as this gives the opposite impression; a young brow has nicely positioned eyebrows, is smooth and the forehead is not lifted or longer). An Ottawa Brow Lift is performed either under the skin and above the muscle (subcutaneous), under the muscle and galea (subgaleal) or under the periosteum (subperiosteal).

Dr. James Lacey now commonly performs a subcutaneous browlift, after experience with the other procedures. This dissection preserves all sensation to the scalp, raises the brow as desired, treats forehead lines, smooths the lateral brow and can be done under local anesthetic. It is performed through a temporal incision that is hidden in the hair and no hair is shaved and the incision is barely visible afterwards. The incisions only meet in the midline of the inner brows that need lifting, if there are deep forehead lines or a high forehead that Dr. Lacey needs to lower.

What Are the Types of a Surgical Brow Lift?

Hairline or Coronal Brow Lift

This method involves making an incision across the top of the head, from ear to ear, within the hairline. The skin is then lifted, and excess skin, fat, and tissue are removed or repositioned to achieve the desired result. This type of brow lift is most effective when you have significant sagging and deep wrinkles.

Trichophytic Brow Lift

Consider a trichophytic brow lift if you have a receding hairline. Unlike a traditional brow lift, this procedure elevates your eyebrows by removing forehead skin, not altering the hairline. The incision is cleverly hidden behind the hairline, allowing hair to camouflage it for a natural-looking result.

Endoscopic Brow Lift

This technique uses several small incisions behind the hairline through which an endoscope (a thin tube with a camera) and surgical instruments are inserted. Dr. James can see the underlying muscles and tissues on a screen and make the necessary adjustments. This method is less invasive, has a quicker recovery time, and results in minimal scarring.

Temporal Brow Lift

Also known as a lateral brow lift, this technique is less extensive. It focuses on lifting the outer corner of your brows, that area that tends to droop first and make your eyelids feel heavy. This minimally invasive procedure offers subtle but effective results, with a quicker recovery time than a full brow lift. While it offers less dramatic results, it also comes with fewer risks and a shorter healing time.

Direct Brow Lift

This method involves making an incision directly above the eyebrows, making it ideal for patients with heavy brows and significant sagging. While less common due to visible scarring, this type of lift can be highly effective in specific cases.

What are the Benefits of a Surgical Brow Lift?

  • A brow lift can make you look younger by repositioning your brows to a more elevated, youthful position.
  • If you’re bothered by forehead wrinkles and creases, a brow lift can help. It tightens the skin and underlying muscles of your forehead.
  • Over time, your eyebrows might start to droop. A brow lift can reshape and define your sagging eyebrows, giving them a more lifted appearance.
  • By positioning your brows correctly, a brow lift can improve the balance and symmetry of your face.
  • A brow lift can make your eyes appear larger, more alert, and youthful.
  • Sagging brows and forehead wrinkles can make you look constantly tired, frustrated, or sad. A brow lift can help you achieve natural expressions, allowing you to convey your true emotions more effectively.

Who Is the Ideal Candidate for a Brow Lift?

  • Has Sagging Brows:  People who have drooping or sagging eyebrows that give them a tired, sad, or angry appearance.
  • Forehead Wrinkles and Creases: Those who have deep forehead wrinkles or frown lines between the eyebrows.
  • Realistic Expectations: People who have realistic expectations about the outcomes of the surgery and understand the potential risks involved.
  • Desire for Facial Rejuvenation: Those who wish to achieve a more youthful and refreshed appearance in the upper face.
  • Skin Elasticity: Folks with some degree of skin elasticity, which helps in achieving better results.

Can I Get Multiple Cosmetic Procedures Done at the Same Time as a Brow Lift?

Absolutely! You can undergo multiple cosmetic procedures alongside a brow lift. Some common procedures often performed together include facelifts, mini facelifts, neck lifts, skin resurfacing, and upper or lower eyelid surgery. Combining procedures can provide a more comprehensive rejuvenation with a single recovery period. If you’re considering multiple enhancements, be sure to discuss this with Dr. James Lacey to determine the best plan for your needs.

What To Expect in Brow Lift Surgery and Preparation?

Brow lifts a big decision, and there’s more to it than just the surgery itself. Here’s a breakdown of what to expect before your procedure:

Consultation

This is your chance to meet Dr. James Lacey to discuss your goals and ask questions. He'll also review your medical history and take some photos.

Planning Your New Look

Together, you and Dr. James Lacey will decide on the specific technique that's best for you. There are different approaches depending on your desired outcome and facial structure.

Getting Prepped

In the weeks leading up to surgery, you'll need to adjust some things like stopping certain medications and avoiding alcohol. You'll also get blood tests and other clearances to make sure you're healthy for surgery.

Surgery Day

During a brow lift, you will be placed under local anesthesia with sedation. Dr. James Lacey will then make the necessary incisions based on the chosen technique. Through these incisions, the underlying muscles and tissues are adjusted, excess skin is removed, and the brows are lifted to a higher position. The incisions are then closed with sutures or staples, and the area is bandaged.

What to Expect Post-Surgery?

Getting back on your feet after a brow lift will depend on the specific technique used. Most people take 1-2 weeks off work to heal comfortably. Be sure to attend all your follow-up appointments so Dr. Lacey can monitor your progress. Here are some key recovery tips to keep in mind:

Immediate Post-Surgery Care

  1. Arrange for transportation home post-discharge.
  2. Wear bandages for the first 24 hours.
  3. Keep your head elevated with pillows for at least 48 hours.
  4. Avoid showering for the first 24 hours; use gentle baby shampoo afterward.

Long-Term Care

  1. Avoid alcohol, aspirin, and anti-inflammatories for 48 hours.
  2. Refrain from heavy lifting, vigorous exercise, and sex for a few weeks.
  3. Take gentle walks to aid circulation.
  4. Stitches may need removal after 1-2 weeks.
  5. Continue to avoid smoking to aid healing.

Managing Discomfort

  1. Pain after surgery is minimal but itching and discomfort may occur.
  2. Temporary scalp numbness is normal and can last a few weeks; longer if an open brow lift technique is used.
  3. Apply cold packs initially to reduce swelling, which should improve after 4-5 days.

What Results to Expect after Brow Lift?

You’ll see a noticeable improvement right away, but remember, swelling and bruising are temporary. Within a few months, you’ll see the full effect of the procedure, leaving you with a refreshed and more youthful appearance. While gravity is always at work, brow lift surgery provides long-lasting results. You can expect minimal signs of aging in the treated area, but maintaining a healthy lifestyle and using sunscreen regularly will help you keep your youthful look for years to come.

How Much Does a Brow Lift Cost?

The brow lift surgery is a highly personalized procedure. The cost of your brow lift may vary based on the type of brow lift performed along with other factors. The average cost of a brow lift at Katana Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery Clinic is around $4,500 – $6,000 CAD.

Non-Surgical Options for Eyebrow Lift

For those looking for a less invasive option, non-surgical eyebrow lifts can provide subtle improvements without the need for surgery. These methods include:

Botox Injections

Botox can be used to relax the muscles that pull the eyebrows down, allowing the forehead muscles to lift the brows naturally. This treatment is quick, with minimal downtime, and results typically last 3-4 months.

Dermal Fillers

Fillers can be injected to add volume and support to the brow area, lifting and smoothing the skin. Hyaluronic acid-based fillers are commonly used and can last up to a year.

Ultrasound Therapy

Ultherapy uses focused ultrasound energy to stimulate collagen production and tighten the skin around the brows. Results can take a few months to become apparent and can last up to a year or more.

Radiofrequency Treatments

Procedures like Thermage use radiofrequency energy to heat the skin and promote collagen production, resulting in a lifted and firmer brow area. Results can last from six months to a year. All in all, non-surgical options offer temporary results and require ongoing treatments. However, they are a viable choice if you’re looking to avoid surgery and its associated risks and downtime.
