Summer is upon us at Kanata Plastic Surgery Ottawa!
The warm weather is long overdue and with that comes more and more time spent outside. There has been contradictory results in studies, as there always is, on sunscreen and whether it’s good or it’s evil. We will let you wade through those results and form your own opinion on the great sunscreen debate. However, we should let you know that we have a couple of amazing products to choose from if you are of the sunscreen persuasion.
Alyria Sunscreen Lotion SPF 45 – This product is made with Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide. Protects skin tissue against free radicles with its unique regenerating antioxidants and providing broad-spectrum UVA and UVB protection minimizing the damaging effects of the sun.
Alyria Age Renewal SPF 25 Lotion – Helps prevent signs of aging, reduces fine lines and wrinkles and increases skin hydration.
DermaMD Last Step Daytime Moisturizer with SPF 41 – Protect and shield your skin from the sun’s damaging UVA and UVB rays with this daytime moisturizer. This daily cream provides SPF 50 protection from both kinds of UV damaging rays. It contains aloe vera, avocado oil, jojoba oil, and shea butter; all natural soothing ingredients combined with antioxidants that will work to protect and moisturize your skin without harsh fragrances.
We also carry Colorescience Mineral Make-up. This mineral make-up provides sun protection built right into amazing coverage. By its very nature, the mineral make-up provides a physical block. Made with titanium dioxide and Zinc these two minerals provide a physical barrier between your skin and the sun…not made with harsh chemicals so it is suitable for even those with the most sensitive skin. For those with acneic skin, mineral makeup is a preferred choice because it won’t cause further breakouts and will leave the client with a natural matte finish. Only needs to be applied once in the morning.
As an amazing after sun refreshing spritz we carry DermaMD’s Grapefruit Kiwi Toner. This toner was designed for use as a toner for the face as part of your daily skincare routine…but it doubles as an after-sun refresher. Spray your whole body as you leave the beach or get back home from a day in the sun. This conditioning product hydrates and soothes your skin with Aloe Vera and Chamomile extract, and is suitable for all skin types. As an added bonus you can spritz it into your hair after your shower for extra conditioning!
Importance of staying hydrated
Hydration isn’t just important during physical activity. Sitting in the sun on a hot or humid day, even if you aren’t exercising, can also cause your body to need more fluids. Babies, children, people who have a heart condition, and those older than 50 or overweight may also have to take extra precautions. It’s also a good thing to keep tabs on your hydration if you’re traveling because we can sweat differently in different climates.
What does water do for your body?
- Move nutrients and waste throughout your body
- Keep your blood pressure normal
- Control your body temperature
- Lower your risk of dehydration and heat stroke
Keep your skin hydrated too, especially your face. Only a small amount of the water we drink makes it to our skin, so ensure you are using a quality moisturizer to keep your skin hydrated. Hydrated skin looks younger, wrinkles are less noticeable when our skin is supple and hydrated! We have several products to keep your skin hydrated and won’t make your skin greasy. Call or book in with Karen or Mikaela for a complimentary skin consult to find the right moisturizer for your skin this summer!
Did you know?
We hear the term “The Dog Days of summer” quite often, but the real “dog days” refer to the weeks between July 3 and August 11. They are named after the Dog Star (Sirius) that rises at the same time as the sun. Dog Star is found in the constellation of Canis Major.
In the Ottawa Area? A quick google search can direct you to free public stargazing, or star parties happening in your neighbourhood. A great way to spend a warm summer night!
