Ottawa Fat Transfer / Grafting
Also known as fat transfer or fat injection
A fat grafting procedure that transfers fat from areas that have excess fat, such as the inner or outer thighs, and injects it into other areas. Good examples of fat grafting areas are the face, hands, breasts and buttocks. This safe and long-lasting, well-tolerated procedure produces very natural-looking results.
Am I a good candidate for fat grafting?
The purpose of fat grafting is to augment or fill in volume-deficient areas. Commonly grafted, or injected areas include the hands, face (including the lips), depressions or creases of the skin and the breasts and buttocks (for augmentation). Donor sites from which fat is taken are used for this procedure. It is important that you do not have any circulation problems, either from a medical condition or smoking.
You would be a good candidate for fat grafting if:
- If you have facial areas that appear creased and sunken.
- If you are seeking a more permanent correction than is provided by temporary fillers.
- If you desire to improve your body contour, revise scars and fill bodily depressions.
- If you are seeking to rejuvenate your hands and face.
- If you are undergoing a breast reconstruction, to fill in contour irregularities or hide obvious signs of breast implants.
Breast implants and fat grafting: If your breast shape needs optimizing, a fat graft could prove to be useful. If you have residual breast irregularities after undergoing a breast augmentation with implants, these irregularities can be filled in with fat to produce a smoother contour and optimal shape.
Breast reconstruction with fat grafting: If you have breast shape irregularities or defects following a lumpectomy, fat grafting is an effective method for filling in and correcting these defects. This procedure is also an amazing option for total breast reconstruction following a mastectomy; however, to achieve ample breast volume, a multistage process that typically requires two to four sequential fat grafting procedures is necessary.
Facial fat transfer: If you have facial creases, such as laugh lines, forehead wrinkles and crow’s-feet, fat can be removed from your abdomen, thighs, or other areas and be injected into your face. Acne scars and sunken areas of the face as well as lips and cheeks can also be filled in.
